Here are the Hurley Winter Classic Trophies for the competition held in South Australia. Combining laser cut acrylic with laser engraved timber helped us create a great looking batch of trophies that the winners looked stoked to receive!
These great looking laser etched timber trophies have been constructed for Emmanuel College. With accents of stainless steel and different shades of wood to compliment the main piece of timber. The outcome is a stylish and respectable award to be handed down throughout the years .
These great looking laser etched plaques were put together for Andrew Barton Laundry Equipment. These simple but stylish pieces turned out great and we are very happy with the end result. Made from Camphor Laurel and Stainless steel this great combination of materials has a fantastic look.
Here are some great trophies we created for the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) awards here on the Gold Coast. We also got to handle the application of the media wall and other signage throughout the awards area.

We were approached by Hurley to create a custom etched hardwood trophy for the 2014 Nike SB Classics Cup. The main competition set consisted of a huge 1st place trophy and two smaller 2nd & 3rd place trophies. We also created some extra competition trophies for the Best Trick & Highest Air competitions they had going as well. Unfortunately the final main event was cancelled due to rain.
Here’s what Hurley had to say: “The heavens opened and the liquid sunshine poured down at Manly on finals day, which unfortunately meant the cancelation of both the Nike SB Classics Cup Pro final and Masters final. The crew did a great job of transforming the pool – with the addition of hand-laid granite coping and the slide, diving board and ladder on Saturday for the Best Trick competition – but one thing we did not want in the pool was water! So the decision was made to split the Masters prize money equally which meant our crew of legends each pocketed $400. And the points tally from the five heats that had already been run in the Pro division was considered as final.” You can get all the competition points info from here.
Fortunately there was a few good days of weather so here’s a highlight reel of day 8 of the Nike Classics Cup.
We were approached by Hurley to do this years Australian Open of Surfing Trophies. They were quite a detailed and intricate concept to put together, but they turned out great.
The trophy consisted of laser cut Stainless Steel layered and mounted to a high gloss black base. The base had a matt black Hurley logo on the top and a Stainless Steel logo inserted on the bottom of the base.
Congratulations to Adriano de Souza from Brazil who took out Julian Wilson to win the Open Mens comp and Hawaiian Carissa Moore for winning the Open Womens comp.
Here’s a little video of the highlights of the final day of the competition.
Here is a project we did for QGC. There are laser cut and moulded acrylic puzzle pieces. They were illuminated with remote controlled LED lights.
They were hung from the ceiling at one of their events.
We were asked to create the annual company awards for Herron Todd White. We sat down with them and came up with some different material and construction options and the final product was an interactive piece made from a timber veneered block with laser etched logos and a 2 pak painted insert. Each colour represents the 4 different areas of the company. We also put together some LED lanterns for a table centrepiece used for the awards night. The final result turned out great.
Potato Press has been getting in to the christmas spirit with a project we have done for the Brisbane Bright Stars Christmas Carols decorations.
We put together 2 large laser cut and illuminated acrylic christmas trees and a large illuminated star which hung from the marquee. Along with that we did some large laser cut free standing three wise men, a bunch of small hanging laser cut stars and a large banner spanning the face of the marquee.
Everything turned out fantastic and looks great all set up. Drop down to the carols if you are in the Brisbane area!
This is one of those projects that we love here at Potato Press. We were approached by a Brisbane company to produce a large perpetual sculpture for there internal staff awards. The brief was to create a striking scupltural piece based off the awards brolga logo to sit in the foyer of their Brisbane office. Something that was more artistic and interpretive. So what we ended up with was a layered laser cut stainless steel brolga which sat on a custom built timber plinth. Our Joiner Rex almost killed our designer when he got the specs for the timber plinth, but the final result was worth all the effort that went into it. The final result looked amazing sitting in the foyer of their newly refurbished office.
Here are some images from the Regional Flavours Festival that happened at Southbank Brisbane in July.
The River cottage laser cut signage was made from 10mm ply with some custom colouring. The final signage looks great installed on the green walls, surrounded by herbs, strawberries and masterchefs!
This is a project that we did for Time Pet Products. It was a trophy for their internal staff awards night. The trophies are made from Recycled Spotted Gum Hardwood Timber and laser etched with some typography that we custom designed. The timber came out looking great after we gave it a bit of love and the laser etch really set it off.
