Over a period of 4 days, some of the worlds best surfers complete against local talent at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast.
For the 2018 Burleigh Pro surf event we worked with the team at Surfing Queensland again to create some more unique trophies that embody the Burleigh headland vibe. The Burleigh headland is famous for its Norfolk pines and great views of the surf from up on the hill so it wasn’t even a question that these elements were to be included in the awards.
With a combination of timber that grows native to south-east Queensland and laser cut acrylic, the pieces were layered on top of each other and designed in a way where the award portrayed a 3D landscape. We were stoked with how these awards polished up and we look forward to working with Surfing QLD in the future.

Wood Mackenzie is a leading management consultancy firm who also supply research and widespread data on global energy, chemicals, metals and mining to the world. Their headquarters are based in the UK but have offices in major cities all over the globe and serve over 2,000 clients spanning over their different sectors.
For Wood Mackenzie’s upcoming annual Exploration Awards 2018, we were asked to create 6 trophies with a bit of twist on our signature acrylic and timber layered style by incorporating the brands colours and a topographic effect with the printing and cutting.

Every year, Red Bull hosts and sponsors world-class athletes and events all over the world. On the 10th of November in Sydney, Australia, Red Bull challenged people to design, build and then pilot their own creations off a 6 meter high flight deck in the event they call Flugtag (‘flying day’ in German).
We were approached by the guys at Havas Sports & Entertainment Australia to complete this job for the team at Red Bull and were challenged to create something inspired by the companies’ signature style. The quintessential red bull wings were a must for this design, we also featured the cartoon style drawings that are also sported across Red Bull’s marketing campaigns.
Combining timber, acrylic and solid aluminium powder coated pieces we created this set of awards to embody the larger than life event that Red Bull has curated. We added accents of Gold, Silver and Bronze as a point of difference across the three awards, which captures your attention at the large scale the awards are produced at.

Situated in the Events Arena at Carrara Markets, The Morris Art Prize is an art space where well-known and emerging Australian artists come to together to display their masterpieces. The aim of the event is to promote and support these artists, as well as celebrating the region with this years’ theme focusing on ‘Brisbane to Byron’.

Founded in 2003 in Sydney, Sumo Salad had a vision for creating fast healthy food for Australia and the rest of the world. Flash-forward to now, Sumo Salad has now grown to a international brand, serving 6 million meals each year across their stores.
Sumo Salad approached us to create their Franchisee Awards. Using solid hardwood timber to frame the shape of the award we added acrylic, laser etched details and silver name plates to create these perpetual trophies. By cutting into solid timber to expose the sumo salad logo, it has added another dimension to the award.

With many high-rises, new buildings and renovations being completed on the Gold Coast, a much anticipated project for the regions residents and tourists include the soon to be unveiled Jewel buildings. A project being completed by the Yuhu Group, they aim to produce these towers to exemplify elegance and sophistication with superb materials, texture, character and bespoke fixtures to create the ultimate expression in luxury and style.
In August 2018 the tallest tower of the three reached a significant construction milestone and celebrated a topping out ceremony where a palm tree was lifted to the rooftop. To mark the special occasion, DBI contacted us to create a bespoke high-end plaque to remain on the rooftop that reflected the style throughout the buildings, as well as also using products that were just as luxurious as the Jewel brand.
The finished outcome was a solid timber stand with a solid timber insert with the option of hanging the piece up by a D-Ring at the back if the stand is not needed. Each piece had a black japan finish and a brass brushed acrylic with laser etching.

PepsiCo is a worldwide brand with many different products under its belt, of coarse including Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Smith’s, Dorito’s and many more. As of 2012 PepsiCo was the second largest food and beverage business in the world, and continues to climb as it continues to acquire more and more products in the food and beverage industry.
As part of their upcoming ‘Globies Awards’, PepsiCo contacted us to create some custom trophies for them using our signature layered style using acrylic and timber. On the clear acrylic layers a different piece of the earth was printed on each to give it some dimension and was finished off with laser etching on the timber face plate.

Taking place at the end of September is The Nautique USA Wakesurf National Championships. Held in Texas, USA, Nautique Boats and The World Wake Association (WWA) have partnered together to create a family-oriented wakesurfing event open to surfers of all ages and ability levels.
Nautique has been a long running client of ours so we were pleased to create some more custom trophies for the event with WWA in the unique style we have carried across all our Nautique jobs.
These awards feature timber etched title plates as well as an inlayed acrylic logo badge, Although the real design feature of this award is definitely the acrylic 3D wave in the base. The wave motif has been inspired directly from the wave featured in the Wakesurf logo.

For this project we were happy to welcome back a customer, Fossil. We have previously designed some trophies for Fossil but this time we were given the task of creating some timber boxes to house Champagne and glass flutes for their Executive Leadership Team.
Keeping true to their vintage and classic design aesthetic we wanted to incorporate the raw edges of the timber instead of coving them up. The final design also kept the natural look and feel of the timber with no stain or varnish. We then finished up with laser-etched text onto the lid.

Greef is an Australian Motorbike and fishing apparel brand, who hosted The Hayden Grebert Memorial Copmanhurst Bass Classic in 2017. It is a weekend where fisherman from all over Australia, fish for the biggest bass on the Mighty Clarence River!
The task given was to create an award that embraced the overall style of Greef, so using solid hardwood timber we finished the award with black details, an acrylic emblem and laser etched text into the timber. The outcome was a great reflection of the event and their host, Greef, and something winners would proudly showcase.

For an upcoming awards night at the Aquis Gold Coast Turf Club, the team there contacted us to create some boxes for the winners that contained a golden horseshoe. Having previously created the perpetual trophy for their Gold Coast Cup event, we were excited to work with the turf club again to create some more unique pieces.
The box features laser cut out patterned details around each side, which tie into the existing style from their trophies. This laser cut filigree reveals blue details showing from beneath the screen.

Hosted annually on our scenic coastal region, the Gold Coast Marathon recently wrapped up its 40th edition on June 30th and July 1st, 2018. Touted as Australia’s leading marathon, the race includes several distinct categories for participants of all ages and abilities, including the Gold Coast Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Gold Coast Airport Fun Run, and the Garmin Junior Dash.
Prize money for winners of each race ranges from $550 to $20,000 for both men and women. Guests and supporters are invited to cheer on runners from Runaway Bay to Burleigh Heads as participants race along the famously flat, scenic route alongside some of the Gold Coast’s most renowned surf beaches and broadwater areas.
Approached to create a series of custom designed awards for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Male category winners of the Southern Cross University 10km Run, we wanted to create a design that also encompassed the Gold Coast terrain and easygoing, sunny way of life.
Using a combination of printed acrylics and timber, we incorporated waves and sand design elements as a reminder of the natural local beauty, adding detailed layers for an eye-catching look with all the etched copy and logo elements to serve as a reminder of the race itself.
Of the 5,363 entrants and 4,732 finishers of the Southern Cross University 10km Run, we want to give special congratulations to the recipients of our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards, Jordan Gusman, Andy Buchanan and Adrian Potter.
