City of Ryde - Women in Local Government

We were contacted earlier this year by the City of Ryde council, asking if we could design a piece of celebratory art for International Women’s day. We of course jumped at the chance to be a part of such a special project. This commemorative piece highlights all women who have served in local government, starting with the first who woman who served in 1954, Mrs Edna Wilde OAM. We also incorporated blank space into the design to allow for future female leaders to be added, as well as serving as a daily reminder to take action for inclusion and equality.

This multi-layered project highlights native Australian Timbers and bursts of colour throughout. The piece needed to be easily updatable so we have designed it with a puzzle like technique for future discs to be added by the City of Ryde employees. The striking etch of the first female Mayor, Mrs Edna Wilde OAM, really brings this piece to life.

The below images were supplied to us by the team at City of Ryde. Here you can see current City of Ryde Mayor Jerome Laxale and the first female Mayor and longest serving Councillor, Mrs Edna Wilde OAM unveiling this commemorative piece of art.
